I've posted about this twice before. The first time I figured it was gas, an isolated incident. The second time it had me wondering because it was so loud I could hear it from my bedroom and it went on for at least an hour. I just got home and she's doing it again. Blowing huge bubbles under water, looks totally involuntary, then rushing to the surface for air. I've only been out for an hour and all day she's been totally normal. The last time was over a week ago. Now I'm concerned as to what may be causing it. Wondering if another trip to the vet is in order.

Water temp is 75, air temp is 80, basking temp is 90. No other symptoms so far. Looks like she's swimming ok.

My turts did a strange croaking noise this summer but haven't reproduced it. I'm not sure what might be the cause, there are many things that we'll never understand about their behavior. If Rocks continues it, then a vet visit would be a good idea.

I think I'm going to call him in the morning anyway. I overlooked it the first time, figured the second time was a fluke but now I'm just worried. I'm keeping a close eye on her tho. Also noticed it only happens in the water, not while she's basking.

My turtle was doing that about a month ago as well. She would let out a large belch under water, one every 20-25 min, that was so loud you could hear it 5 feet away from the tank. In my case I think it was from eating too much amazon sword (aquatic plant). She refused to eat anything but that for about 10 days and thats when the belching started. Since I got a UVA heat lamp her appetite is much improved and I dont have the problem anymore..Anything the turt could have eaten in the tank to give it indegestion?

Don't think so. They've both been eating the same stuff they've always had. It occurred to me that it happens after a few days of just veggies (they only get pellets twice a week) but I'm not sure about that timing. The vet said as long as she's eating and swimming as usual to not worry about it but to keep an eye on her. No other symptoms as of yet.

Just one quick note, turtles, much like submarines, will let out air from their lungs in order to make themselves float at a certain depth, or else they would have a heck of a time diving, mine will let out small bubbles when they dive deeper, remember that the bigger the tank, the more pressure the water will put on their lungs, he may have taken in too much air and let it out at one time. :D

Thanks Stray. I was aware of that, and the vet mentioned it also but it's definetly not a controlled or voluntary act with my girl. It actually looked almost painful. She hasn't done it in a couple of days so I'm just going to keep an eye on her.

I hope it's not serious, I hope she is just playing around.

i posted about gustav doing the same thing. and i agree...it does look painful. i was thinking it might be connected to him overeating, but i'm not sure.
