Urgent Care :: res scratching her throat

My (2-3) year old RES is basking but keeps scratching her throat and now she keeps dipping just her head in the water while contining to bask. Her behavior is worrying me. Is this normal? Please help!

Maybe she has some excess skin on her neck. When she's underwater, do you see any whitish layer of skin hanging around? If so, it may be bothering her.

is she shedding?

also, how hot is your basking area? if she needs to dip her head in water, it may be because it's getting too hot for her.

My RES will do that (dip his head) especially in the summer, when he's getting too warm and wants to cool off a bit. I've seen him basking with just his head in the water. When he gets too warm, into the water he goes.

Is the scratching accompanied by some twitching? If so, it also has to do with the warming up process. My RES will sometimes get really spastic.
