Little RES has eyes closed all the time and has somthing flacking
off around its head. It rubs its face with its front legs like its eritated.
Is there anything I can do.
How big is your turtle? 1 inch
How long have you had it? 1 month

What is the water temperature? 75 degreese
Did you use a thermometer? Yes
Are you using a water heater? Yes
How much water is in there? 2 inche
Are you using a water condioner? No
Are you using any filtration? Yes

What is the basking temperature? about 80-90
Is there a basking light? yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? Yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? It is a turtle dock.
Is there a UVB light? Yes

What have you been trying to feed it? ReptoMin sticks dried shrimp Roesy minnows
When was the last time your turtle ate? It ate a few pices or shrimp yesterday thats all.

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 20 gallons for now
Is the tank near a window? No
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? No

Have you read the Basic Case Help section? Yes 4-5 times
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? Yes

Do you know what is wrong with it.

First, the water is WAY too low. Bump it up to up alot, about three quarters of the tank. Bring up the temp to 80-85

Dont bring up the temp to 80-85, just bring it up 2 degrees, the reason why your turtles eyes are closed is probably that the UVB light is too close, turn it off for a day or two til it gets better, about the "Flaky stuff" thats just his skin shedding, which is normal.

Try using water conditioner- it removes chlorine and other harmful chemicals. Turtles will often keep their eyes closed when there are still a lot of hard chemicals in the water.

Water temperature should be 78*-80* for turtles under 4".

A lot of things can cause turtle eye irritation and swelling - vitamin a deficiency, respiratory illness, too much chlorine or other chemicals in the water, dirty water, certain UVB light bulbs, infection, injury.

Let's start with some simple ones. In case the problem is vitamin deficiency, get some cod liver oil and soak some of his pellets in it and feed them to him. Also, soak a q tip in code liver oil and dab it on his eyelids a couple of times a day.

On the light bulb, what kind of UVB bulb are you using?

Yeah,chlorine can mess with them.I use "ZooMed ReptiSafe".It removes chlorine and chemicals.Arisu is right.The temp. should be somehwere between 75-80.

Everytime my turtles eyes were closed or swollen it turned out to be the light so try turning it off or moving it farther back first, if that doesnt work, do what spot said..

I frogot to say the flacky stuff is a dull gray or white and its only around his head and nech.

Is the flakey stuff noticeable in the water but not while basking? If so, it sounds like there's some shedding going on. If the flakey stuff appear when he's dry/basking, it sounds like his skin is dry or some residue has dried on his skin.

What kind of filtration are you using with a water depth of only two inches? How often is the water changed and tank cleaned?
