Urgent Care :: Basking

Hey all,

Not sure if this is really urgent but anyway, my two turtles arent basking since they were put into their new tank. They have only been in there for two days but usually I see them basking a couple hours a day. Now they aren't basking at all or least that I can see. Is this bad for them? What should I do?

Generally when a turtle is put in a new environment, he may stop basking or eating for a few weeks. A few weeks without basking won't hurt them.

However, check your basking temps and make sure they aren't too hot or too cold. Do you know what the basking temps were prior to moving them? You want to strive for a basking temp that your turtle likes. When I switched from a weaker bulb to a stronger one, my turtle began basking a lot. Apparently he prefers closer to 95 degrees over the 90 degrees it was before.

Also, make sure your UVB isn't too strong. If it is, they may want to avoid the bulb because it may hurt their eyes.
