Urgent Care :: Concerned.........whiteness.

My RES has turned white on the inside of it's skin between the upper and lower shell around the legs, her markings have faded and it's all turned a pale white, the rest of her looks fine other that some shedding on her shell.

She is not acting strangely or no habits have changed...

Is this something I should be concerned with?

Has it occurred over time or just suddenly? If it's suddenly, I would get her to the vet in case she's not getting blood flow to her legs. Is she having trouble using her legs at all?

it's been gradual.....

The wife is concerned cause she hasn't noticed it until today, but I'm the one who takes care of her, so I noticed it. Didn't really think anything about it cause it's been slow, and she seems very healthy and active.

This is Beaker. As the skin on her legs got darker, between the shell her skin got lighter. It might be from UV and the amount of basking. Does it look like this? If so, no worries......




If it doesn't look like Beaker's skin, can you post a pic?

The Beakster looks awesome! It doesn't sound bad to me. If Its totally white like albino skin I'd be worried.

My RES has skin that's lighter in the areas you mentioned, and it's gradually become that way as he's grown. If your turtle is otherwise healthy and acting normally, I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Your turtle's "white" skin looks fine to me. Those areas of the skin don't get as much light as the arms/legs which are constantly outside of the shell so they are going to be more white. Totally normal & my turtle has looked like this for 14 yrs or more.
