Urgent Care :: Mating!!

I just got my turtles over 2 weeks now and today i saw them both doing the courtship dance. it was both of em facing each other and vibrating hands. and now im wondering how long does it take to hatch eggs cause im worried i wont get the sand in time so she could put it down or else she might get egg binding. oh is it usual for this courtship dance to happen at such an early age? their both one inch or less and i believe less than 1 years old.

If your turtles are less than an inch, you don't need to worry about eggs. It's my understanding that females won't be ready to lay eggs until they are at least 4 inches and around 3 years of age. Of course those numbers vary based on a number of things such as genetics and environment.

Also, if it was mating, only the male would do it. If they both are doing it, then they probably are having a territorial "issue". Most likely your tank is too small for them.

oh thanks for ur responses! right now im trying to upgrade my 10gal tank to a 55 gallon tank. ill post some pictures of my tank in the picture section later.

Aaaah - a ten-gallon tank will definitely create some issues for two turts! When are you upgrading to the 55 gallon? If it's food-aggression, you might want to feed them in seperate containers. if it's territory, hurry up and upgrade to the bigger tank ASAP.

my turtles always have the vibrating hands but never do anything else about it.

My turtle Zeke does the vibrating hands in the corner of his tank ALL the time...he is by himself so not sure if it's hormonal, or territorial or why he's doing it.

He could be seeing a reflection of himself in the tank and think it's an intruder.

As i cleaned my RES tank i found what seemed to be her eggs in the filter. What should do so this doesn't happen again in the future?

This is a *really* old thread. In the future, you should probably just start a new topic when you have an issue. What do you mean, you found her eggs in the filter? How many, what condition were they in, how did they fit in your filter grate? Search for nesting and you will find a lot of threads dealing with this topic.
