Urgent Care

Pancho.....as of two days ago he has gone completely limp. One day he was active swimming around basking eating, and actually he still eats like before. He is very picky and will only eat meat. He has shown no signs of any kind of illness, nor has his brother sancho who has the same diet. I see no signs of an RI. He isn't swimming so I don't know if he floats on his side. I don't know what happened, this came about two days ago out of the blue. He has a wonderful habitat for the both of them, thanks to the help of some research. I have had them both for three months and no problems at all until now. Please please help me. what do i need to do?

I would take him to a vet as soon as possible. If he's not moving at all, that's not a good sign. Sometimes RI can sneak up on you. I hope everything is ok.

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately I have just recently lost my job, and cannot afford to take him to the vet. Is there anything I can try at home? I just checked on him and noticed that it looks like he is trying to vomite. His head does that gagging motion, but nothing is coming out. He is not wheezing. Is there anything that I can try at home? I am desparate for some help.

turtx2 -- I don't think there any vets on this site. From what you said about your turtle you need to go to a vet. We can all guess, but that will not be good for your turtle. Having an animal in your care takes a certain amount of responsibility. They're a lot of things that can make a turtle lethargic. It could be RI, MBD, parasites, etc. It is a crapshoot to guess.

Bump the water temp to 80-82F. Basking to 90-92.
With a strictly "meat" diet....I hope it's not raw meat......he could be constipated or just got too much at one feeding but I really think he needs the kind of attention that can only come from a Vet. It could be caused by a poor diet or environment. Find a Vet in your area (there are Vet listings on the main site) and give them a call. A vet will rarely turn down a sick animal and may set you up on a payment plan.

Get him to a vet and ask to defer payment. Most vets will work with you, and if they won't, then you probably don't want to go there anyhow. He needs a vet ASAP.

How is Pancho doing?

Does it still look like he's trying to vomit? If he's doing this on the basking area, are you sure he's not gasping for air?

Did you find someone to take him to?
