Urgent Care :: BLUES SPOTS ON TURTLE.

How big is your turtle? 1 in.
How long have you had it? like half a year

What is the water temperature? hm I think its about 70-75 degrees
Did you use a thermometer? no. i did once but i dont put one in there
Are you using a water heater? no I use a lamp
How much water is in there? about 3 inches
Are you using a water conditioner? no
Are you using any filtration? no I clean it but then Im getting one soon

What is the basking temperature? im not sure, how do u figure this out?
Is there a basking light? yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? its rocks
Is there a UVB light? im getting one ;p

What have you been trying to feed it? ReptoMin and Baby Romaine lettuce
When was the last time your turtle ate? this morning

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? um........14in. w/8.5inL/8in. in height
Is the tank near a window? um no.
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? you can say that, its in the living room.

Have you read the Basic Care section? yessssssssss.
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? yes but didnt find any like this

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? used to have a soft shel lbecause i didnt have the uvb light.

SO....
TURTLE HAS BLUE SPOTS ON ITS SHELL LIKE 6.
AND THAT STARTED TO HAPPEN WHEN I PUT THE BABY ROMAINE LETTUCE IN THERE. IS IT BECAUSE OF THAT?

Posting a picture would be helpful, hopefully some one here will know what's up. One think I do know is that your tank needs some serious upgrading.

If your turtle is only an inch (really?), he needs warmer water and a lamp isn't going to do it for him--he needs a submersible water heater. He also needs a filter, UVB light (which you said you're getting), a heat light and probably a bigger tank, for starters. Please do some reading on what a good, basic set-up requires. You check the temp of the basking area with a thermometer.

Your turtle will not grow properly without a good habitat (and diet).

About the spots---are the areas soft at all? Does the color come off? Perhaps it's a type of algae, but without a pic, people can only blindly guess what the problem could be...

They look like some sort of algae to me. Your best bet is to upgrade the turtle's habitat as soon as possible. The fact that one turtle has already died should be an indication that the habitat is lacking.
The sooner the turtle has a good tank, the sooner he'll be healthier.

that looks a lot like a type of algae that i`ve had in my fish tanks. i think it`s called green spot algae.

your turtle would probably appreciate an major upgrade to his living space.

I agree also - algae. Be sure and follow all the advice up above and read up on a good turtle habitat and good turtle diet. Probably the first thing to do is get a water heater. If a turtle is too cold he won't eat well and will be susceptible to disease. Set the temperature on the water heater to 78 degrees, then check with a thermometer to be sure it's heating properly.

In addition to diet and general conditions, one more thing that causes slow or no growth in a turtle is internal parasites. Your little guy is very small for his age. I'd take a stool sample to a vet and get it checked for parasites. This kind of check isn't hard for a vet to do and it shouldn't cost you much.

How do you get rid of the algae
and yes soptsmama, my turtle is growing......and just a week before i could see colors starting to come out of the shell like those patterns turtles have. Its about 1.5 in. Im sorry for the misunderstanding.

and yes the turtle is eating too. Its eating quite well actually and it swims. Prob the only problem is the tank size. and the diet.

Id say you definatley need to get him a heater and a uvb light for his own health.

Its also handy to have a themometer in the water and then you can always keep your eye on the temp and make sure its not too high or of course too low.

Just a regular upgrade is best for him i think
