Urgent Care :: Question about Sarge's eyes and shell???????

I got Sarge on Friday and he looked fine and seemed healthy . And he still does but I noticed a small white spot on his shell. and a couple funky colored squishy spots? one of the squishy spots is kind of gold looking under water now that he has been basking more any one know if this is shell rot or what it is????? and just tonight i noticed that when he closes his eyes it looks like water that comes out what is that?????

Lucky 13 -- Without a picture, a guess is all I can give. It is RI or MBD. The first step would be to make sure that his basking temp is about 90 degrees with uvb lighting. Water temp at 80. Also, very clean water. b.

I clean his tank every other day and he basks for 5-6 hours a day and his water is 78% and I have UVB lighting. I went to Petco where i got him and looked at there tank all they have i a basking light they don't even have a water heater and there was another male there with a big peace of his shell missing but he wasn't there when I got sarge I told the guy that male was sick and all he said was yea we get new ones all the time just check back. So I told him that i already got one I just wanted to let them know that they are selling sick turtles and that male needed to see a vet! but they don't care his reply was"If someone don't buy it cause it's sick we get new ones in all the time" I just wish i had the room to get that male out of there but i don't.

For the "squishy" areas, and in particular the one that is gold looking under water, it sounds to me like water is getting trapped under the scutes as they begin to lift off when the scutes start to shed. Loose scutes will often get a metallic look to them in the water. When you press on them, do the spots/areas appear to move around? If so, at some point when you press on them and they're looser, water should ooze out of them.

The pic of the white spot is too small for me to see clearly, but I doubt it's MBD, especially since you said he looked fine less than a week ago. From what you wrote, he doesn't seem to be showing any symptoms that would indicate he has a respiratory infection.

The tears coming from his eyes happens when he's basking? If so, what's the basking area temp? Turtles will sometimes shed what look like tears when they're getting really warm.

What an awful Petco, I'd call and report them, and especially the employee you spoke to.

From the picture, the spots look like they are around the seams of the scutes, which makes me think it might just be trapped water like marisa said. Is sarge basking and eating regularly?

Well I took Sarge to the vet and she said he is healthy the white spot is very early shell rot from the tank and conditions at Petco but the spot is hard and the vet said it should clear right up. Now that i have him in a clean,worm environment with UVB lighting .All we have to do is put Beta dine on it every day for awhile. So a big sigh over here.

Tell the vet or the local police or news about the conditions at the Petco. Contact the national office and file a complaint. Esp since I heard Petsmart is getting some very bad publicity on their treatment of animals, it might get people on Petco's case too.
