Spiritualjoy, I think your turtles are doing so well because of the good care they are getting. You are doing everything right.

I'm so glad you mentioned the vita shell. Yes it is damaging over the long term. It makes me furious that it's even sold. People buy it because it makes their turtles' shells look pretty and a lot of people don't realize that a turtle is a very very long term pet - they can live to 40+ years if kept healthy, which makes a lot of them family heirlooms - and the bad effects of vita shell aren't seen immediately. If RES normally only lived a year it probably wouldn't be a problem.

I see what you are saying. I hate it that I bought into the whole idea and actually used it on them. I guess the bright side is that I have only been using it a few months, so if I quit now there is a pretty good chance their shells will rectify themselves over time. I've got 40 years to love them!! (God willing, that is!) Thanks for the heads up!
