You said you were curious about the gravid turtle...Which one are you referring to?

Is the male separate from the female? If so, can he see the female from where he is?

Has he gone through a period like this before?

Could something be frightening him or stressing him out?

Yes, I am quite sure he is a male, long nails, mating dance, and I've seen the goods one time when he tried mating w/the female. Their tanks are in the same room but on nonadjacent walls, I couldn't imagine how they would see each other.

He is always splashing around, swimming rapdidly back and forth, making noise, standing upright against a wall of his tank trying to pull himself out (there is an open wire lid on it). That is why I named him Tower (and to continue w/the American Gladiators theme). I let him out to walk around once in a while but he is just never happy. He is always trying to get out of his tank. I'm not sure what it is, he's just not a happy guy ever. He's content when he decides to bask, but otherwise he's nasty (I hate saying it but he is). When you pick him up he looks to bite you. Maybe he is angry I separated him from the female years back but it was in order to save her life (he was found with his mouth around her neck and locked on her with his jaw). Even when he is out of his tank he scurries around and eventually ends up in a corner. His tank is clean and he's given plenty of light and food. My female is so mild and content, total opposites. I've wondered for years why he is like this.

What kind of set-up is he in?
