Urgent Care :: Help!! My egg shattered!

I think I will mist just not on the actual egg. I have them on papertowel since none of the stores carry vermeculite and all of the soils have fertilizer and other things mixed in. I read paper towels are ok. I don't want to touch it again to change the paper towel though. I think I will wait until tomorrow to mist them incase it is actually hatching.

If the relative humidity in your house is high enough you shouldn't need to mist the egg much. Usually you can tell if the egg is beginning to dry out and at that point a very light mist is necessary or place a moist paper towel over the location of the egg. Otherwise, if the air is already humid enough, allowing the egg to have fresh air without drying out is one of the best ways to prevent mold or rot.

I don't know a lot about Painted Turtle eggs but it sounds to me like maybe your female needed more calcium in her diet while she was gravid. But at 8 weeks your egg is pretty close to full term (65 to 80 days @ 71.6 to 89.6 degrees according to Austin's Turtle Page). Hopefully the little guy will make it all the way. It's probably best at this point to not disturb the egg at all because you don't want to break the inner lining. That should provide the baby with the protection it needs from outside contaminants or germs.

Could the eggs have gotten weak from being under water? They were under water all day so I assumed they weren't fertile until I seen the babies growing inside. There doesn't appear to be any mold on the eggs (but I certainly am not touching them again!). When i misted the eggs today a bunch of little pieces of chipped egg shell came off of the egg but I still can not see inside of it and it doesn't look like anything is leaking out. What happens if the egg starts leaking or if it breaks even more? Should I try to get the baby out or just leave it in there. I am really hoping that it hatches, I have already gotten attached to them by watching them inside of the eggs. What should I give Nyx for more calcium? I don't plan on incubating any of her eggs again (most likely they won't be fertile since I don't have a male anyways) but I don't want her to have any problems laying.

I have no idea who fertilized them. I rescued her in May from a really busy road where she was standing in the middle. I suspect a college student threw her out (it was behind an apartment complex on a collge campus) because she is just too friendly to have been wild her whole life.
The eggs were under water when she laid them. I had no idea she was getting ready to lay eggs or I would have put her in a different setup where she atleast had some dirt to lay them in. I took them out for about 1/2 hour to take pictures of them and look at them and then I put them back in there thinking she would eat them. Later on I was researching online and found a site that said if they are sort of sticky then they are fertile because that is the sperm so thats when I went and got them out. They were in there for several hours.
