I've been perusing this site for a couple of months now. Since I was given two little tiny red eared sliders, Speedy González and Valeria. My friends boyfriend had bought them for her in China Town, and she was unaware that they got so big, and decided after doing research that they couldn't keep up with taking care of them. So my boyfriend and I took them. They were barely an inch long, and they were really disoriented at first. Hardly eating. Then slowly but surely they got more playful and funny. Unfortunately, 5 weeks ago, Speedy got sick. He fell into the tank from his rock, and made no attempt to flip himself back over. We came on this site and found out that he had the symptoms of a RI. We called the pet store prior to checking this site, and the guy told us that he might have started to drown from water absorbtion? We separated him from Valeria, in hopes that he would get better but he died just a little while later.
On the plus side, Valeria, who was always a bit more lethargic than her brother (we assigned them genders haha), has become the funniest turtle. She gets very excited when we feed her. She's very active. She likes jumping off the rock filter we bought for the tank. She's just the sweetest little turtle ever.
Here's a picture of her:
So that's all about my turtles. It's our first venture in having a turtle, and we're loving it.
