Hello everyone,

i am not a proud owner of a red eared slider. I decided to get one after not being able to bear how they were stored and treated, me and a friend decided to get one to rescue it from the others. I know that this probably will promote them but i'm really sorry to say that these turtles would have died if kept in those situations..

I plan to give this one better living conditions than it was in before..she (i think she's a she because she's too young to determine) seems awfully afraid of me, i guess that will remain for a few weeks before she can recognise me. I don't really know anything about turtles so i've been reading up lots on the internet (great website and community btw)

I know i'm not supposed to ask questions here..but earlier in the day, she just crept under my pillow and was napping there, i just want to know ifit's normal and if turtles follow normal day-night cycles like most humans.

Thanks guys,
- the Mushroom.

Welcome to Turtle Talk :-)

Let me suggest that you shouldn't let the turtle roam around outside the tank. It can be quite stressful and certainly will not help him settle in to his new home.

That was a quick reply..

Yes, i don't intend to let her roam around the house, i have nightmares when i just think about it..

About the sleep patterns..do turtles normally have regular sleep patterns?
because all these turtles were kept in a small box with holes, i doubt if they were allowed to bask or anything..

Welcome to the forum!

Once they've adjust and you get all of the proper lighting set up, the lighting should be on a day night schedule, just like us. Lights on at sun up, and off at sun down. They'll sleep when you turn the lights off. They may even nap during the day while basking...although quick to respond at any sign of danger.
