Post Posted: Wed Feb 07, 2007 5:49 pm   Hello.

I havn't introduced myself fomally yet. My name is Alan and i live in canada. i had 2 turtles. zero and tails. unfortunately zero has recently passed on due to an unkown sickness (veterinarian could not specifically point it out, septicima is a possibility). she was great and i will always remember her. (this is for you zero!) tails is a male and is about 4.5 inches..he's fine. ive checked him out (just incase) and nothing seems to be unusual. this is a great community and i am now a regular visitor! im planning to get a new companion for tails, maybe this week end. im going to university next year..and im planning to study to be a veterinarian. ill be posting pics of my setup and tails soon (possibly when i get the new one! XD)

Hi Alan, nice to meet you. Sorry about Zero, it's always hard losing a pet.
I too want to be a vet, I go to college in the U.S for animal sciences (pre-veterinary studies) and hopefully I'll be going to vet school shortly. If I may offer you a piece of advice about turtles and college-- dorms don't have a lot of space, so perhaps for now one turtle would be best. Also, with all the expenses of turtle care- vet care, new tanks etc... it may be best to wait until post college to buy an additional turtle. For tails and zero to get along well, was pretty lucky for you.. I'd invite you to look at some of the many posts around the site about turtles that don't get along together and what their owner has to do to fix the problem ( 2nd tank, giving one away etc.). I personally think one of the biggest problems of having two turtles is the space-- something you may not be able to provide much of in a dorm or small apartment-- just something to think about.
But anyways, welcome, I'm sure you'll find lots of good info on the site!

Hi Alan. I'm glad little Tails is doing well. I have a male, too, named Spot. He's about 6 1/2" long and I dearly love him.

Megcornell makes some very good points about having multiple turtles. Why don't you do some reading on here and see what experiences others have had. Some successfully manage with multiple turtles but they wind up with huge tanks (120 gallons) and, even then, often they still have to separate them and maintain two separate habitats. Just something to think about.

Anyway, if you've got pictures of Tails we'd love to see them!

thanks for the tips. im gonna stay home while going to university...im not moving around anytime soon. im planning to get a bigger tank as well. tails need a partner, hes that type of turtle. hes really lonely without zero...he constantly looks for her under the basking area where they used to just hang out and day dream.
