Greetings all. First let me thank you all for the terrific information I have gethered.

My wife came home with a RES for our 3 year old son, and all she had was a small pet carrier - one you see hermit crabs in out at the mall, and a small floating island. It took me 30 seconds online to discover that this set up would not work. After searching on line and checking in town we went to Petsmart and got our new family member - Buster - set up.

We got a 20 gallon long for now, we are moving later this year and with Xmas money is a little tight. The standard turtle ramp/dock I see in 90% of the pics here, a large root looking aquarium decoration, the Fluval 2plus pump, Visi-Therm Stealth 100W heater, thermometers for the water and basking area, a UVA/UVB combo bulb, clamp lamp for heat bulb (reg 60W). We will be adding more as we go; I want to add some plants - both fake and real, and some large river rock.

Actually the research was after the fact, she showed up with him. But I wasted no time checking it out and found we (she) were way under prepared. I tried to get some pics, but none turned out, I will try again and hope that these will turn out better.

The research was early on because, even though you did your upgrades after getting the turtle, you immediately looked into what your new guy/girl needed! :)
