Hey everyone,

I've had my slider for about 6 months now and I've never lost any enthusiasm when it comes to the little guy. I came here because I was concerned about his eating habits and I got all the answers I needed and more. Thank you for spending your free time on this site to help people like me help themselves. I look forward to learning a lot about Helmholtz (my turtle) here, and hopefully I'll be able to help someone else in need down the road.

Just some advice on the gravel...your turtle can and will eat it and it can become impacted. I would remove it, because it can save you a costly vet bill.

What a beautiful RES! His colors are great.

I agree with Missi about the gravel. I've seen some very sad stories on here about RES who ate gravel.

Add more water, the more the better, 10 gallons per inch of shell length is the guided amount. I love the Roman ruin statue, it's a cool looking piece, but it could be taking up valuable swimming space. It's hollow on the back side, correct? You could place it curved in a front corner to free up the swim area in the middle of the tank. Make sure he can't get stuck behind it though. Post more pics soon, we love them!

That is an older picture, the gravel has since been removed and he's almost in a bigger tank. (I'm glad he never ate anything while it was there... I guess I can be grateful I was accidentally overfeeding him and he never got hungry enough to eat one.)

Savannah, to answer your question the colleseum is filled up with rocks and is serving as a basking area for the time being. (I've filled up any corners he could get stuck in with rocks.)

Welcome Brian. Glad to hear you've upgraded your setup. How big is the tank you have now? And how big is your turtle?

He's about 2 1/2 inches and his 30 gallon tank will be here in 2 days.

Oh ok. I couldn't see the rocks before, since you pointed it out I can see them through the cracks of the colliseum. He's going to love all the water in the new 30 gallon! Post some pics when you get it set up.
