The larger one is 4 1/2 inches long and the smaller is 3 1/2 inches long. My friend brought them over in a small tub that they've been in for a couple years. She had a air pump going in it as well as some rocks.
I put them in my kitchen in a larger plastic tub with rocks that they can get up on. I've tried giving them a tiny amount of veggies (a little carrot slice and a tiny bit of cabbage). They are eating the turtle food that came with them.
From what I've read on this site, the most important issue I need to address next is a basking/uv lamp.
My son is 7 and absolutely loves these sliders! They are such neat pets. We also homeschool, so all my creatures double as biology specimens. My experience with reptiles is rather limited although I had occasionally cared for a friend's torts, turts, & dragons.
We also have a toad, tree frog, newt, praying mantis, a few walking sticks (of different species), hamster, goldfish, big piranha, dog, cat, and about 80 rabbits. (I'm a rabbit judge). We also hatched over a dozen Monarchs during the summer.
With all these other critters, my husband wasn't too surprised to see turtles moving into the kitchen LOL
