Its cool to know there's a site and message board dedicated to the red ear slider

Only yesterday I got an idea from some @ a pet shop and Im search of advice

I have two 3ft * 18inches * 18inches tanks

Both of which I intended to keep fishes in.. but an idea stuck me about putting in a turtle. SOmeone told me that even if i full the tank up with water for the fishes, i cud still put the turtle in, just as long as I leave summin fairly strong and stable floating above the water for him to climp on to.. is this true?

i only want one turtle..so its a bit tough to sacrifice a whole tank for that...

Im in search of any ideas as to what exactly i cud use for the turtle to climb on to?
and advice as to whether or not my plan is realistic?

be carefull...RES eat some kinds of fish...i am no expert cuz i just got mine 2day so ima newb 2...welcome

Just keep in mind that a RES will require about 10 gallons of tank space per inch of shell. That would mean 90-120 gallons in the future... for just one RES.

hmmm.. considering the tank space I got now.. and i doubt i cud accommodate more tanks

You're not far off if you have a male turtle, though a female RES will require more space than that. RES don't need to stay in tanks, many people have preformed ponds and stock tanks to use as alternatives.

Hi and welcome, if you are considering an res, please be sure to read through all of this helpful site. The res are a very beautiful turtle and gives hours of enjoyment but remember that these hours also mean years of comitment, the res can easily outlive their owners if properly taken care of. If you decide to get an res, everyone here will be glad to help!

tell me also.. since Im hoping to get only one RES .. can anyone advise as to which typres of fish could i put with them? cause i read somewhere along the site that they eat some type of fish

Anything that moves will eventually be lunch. Well, not everything but most things. So unless you want to find out one day that your prize fishes have been eaten by your turt, i suggest putting only feeder fish with him.
