Hey Guys!

I've just decided my new house needed some new additions. I was at a local pet store and decided any type of fish wasn't for me, but I noticed they had several RES's. So I bought a Fluval 800 togethor with the UVB light and some gravel, oh and not forgetting two great looking RES's! As far as I can gather one is a female and the other a male. They're only around an inch wide. I'm looking forward to caring for them and watching them grow up.

So i've just asked my brother to pop out and get a basking light and some rocks so we can get rid of the gravel (risk?).

Have had a look at the gallery's too, and it seems you guys have got some great RES's too!

regards,

Welcome!

You won't be able to tell the gender of your turtles until they are at least 4 inches long...and that doesn't include head or tale.

Glad you are removing the gravel. Just to be on the safe side, keep an eye out for any that might be passed in the waste. If they have already eaten some, you could end up with it back in your tank.

Welcome. There is great information on taking care of RES on this site. Reading the basic care site, and the stickies on this forum will teach you the basics such as filters, tank size, proper nutrition, vitamins, lights, basking areas etc. I know it's helped me immensely since I've had my RES for a month now.

Thank you all for your replies!

I'm going to nip out tomorrow and get a basking light, rocks, and a level rock for them to bask on.

I've been reading the abundance of info on this site, and am glad yuo have offered to provide some help when needed.

I'm really grateful!
