Well hello there, my name is Lida and my daughter is Charly!! Charly will being turning 3 in Aug and she just picked out her first pet... can you guess what it is???? That's right a RED-EARED SLIDER TURTLE!!! She named him Tuck.

I will be visiting this site often for I have no idea how to care for such an animal, I grew with pigs and cows!!!

I think this site is wonderful and thank you to everyone who is helping keep a healthy and happy turtle as well as a happy 3 yr old, with her new pet!!!

Welcome to the forum. :)

You probably know that Tuck will be more your pet than Charly's since a turtle is a see and not touch pet for children. And all the care and maintenance that is required to keep these wonderful creatures healthy and happy is definitely not child's work. ;) But if simple hygiene rules are followed there's no reason why occasionally Charly can not touch (pet) her turtle (but always supervised of course). And if taken care of properly with the correct habitat and care, Tuck should be with Charly well into her adult years. :)

If you have any pics we'd love to see them. :) If you have any questions after searching/reading the main site and the forum, don't hesitate to ask.

Welcome! What made Charly choose a turtle? I don't remember being three very well, but I'm not sure I knew what a turtle was. That wasn't one of Old McDonald's animals, lol.

Thank you ....

Thank you for the welcome into the community!!! My daughter is fascinated with animals, but she always loved looking at the turtles when we would go to the pet stores to get our salt water aquarium supplies. My husband maitains a 65 gallon salt water tank filled with clown fish, tang, anen...anena......anenamies..... you know what Im tryin to say!, starfish and much more, anyway we were at the store last night and they had a tank filled with these slider turtles and Charly went nuts!! So all she had to do was give her dad "that look" and he decided to take one home. We gathered all we needed for our new family member and went home. I have to admit Iwas kind of sceptical about getting a turtle, but I think I dig this little guy more than she does!!! He is acting alittle shy, not really eating but as I read in more forums, it may take a day or so to get used to his new home. I have posted some questions in the correct area so if the big guys running this site could check them out and help me a little that would be great for I have owned this creature for only about 17 hours, but I am attatched.....thank you for your time with reading this getting to know Charly, Tuck and myself. Pictures will are sure to follow soon!!!
