Hi... my name is Kevin. I am new to the forum and also new to keeping RES. My mom is a kindergarten school teacher and school is out for the summer. In the schools science lab there are two RES that are being kept in a tank that is far too small. I am the lucky person who gets to take these guys home for the summer. This site has been very helpful in setting up a habitat that will be a major improvement from what they are currently living in. I have set up a 50 Gal rubbermaid tub to keep them in overnights and i have a kiddie pool set up let them go outside during the days. I do not have the means to get these turts the set up that they need. I am arranging for them to have a feeding tank from a tractor supply store by the time they are to return to my moms school. Both of these turts are in wonderful health and are very active they are just living in cramped quarters. I am trying to do the best with what I have.

Welcome! As a teacher I can tell you that companies and national chain stores will do a lot in the name of education. Make it known that the turts are school residents and are used for educational purposes. See what they can do for you. If you can get one store to donate a tank, and another to donate a good filter, that's progress! You may need your mothers help if they want to see credentials, but I'm sure she won't a have a problem with that, lol.

after sharing some of the info from this site and the prices of some large stock tanks she is going to the school and she thinks that we can get them to buy a filter and a stock tank for these wonderful truts. Things are looking up and up for these guys.

There was a teacher on here a few months ago and her class had a bake sale to raise money for turtle supplies. That's another idea

Thats a great idea except that school is out for the summer and that would not work the best until school is back. Thats a good idea to keep in mind though. Thnks... Kevin

Sounds like you have the best of intentions & that's a good start! Sometimes the simple setups are best and the fact that you are taking them outside during the day is very caring since they can bask in natural sunlight.
