I just signed up for the forums but have been reading a lot of them and getting all of the answer's to my questions using the search


I have 3 small (a little bigger then a quarter) RES. I got them last week on the side of the road, and they are currently in a 10 gallon tank, but my friend is giving me a 55 gallon tank this weekend.

Currently i have a decent size landing pad for them, a filter, a basking lamp, a UVA/B lamp, heater, a thermometer, food. I'm looking forward to the larger tank so i can get some plants for them to swim in.

Welcome! I'm glad you are getting an upgrade soon. Those little guys will be so happy. I have two RES, believe the, expenses will pile up, lol. Love them to death though. Let us know if you have any questions! Oh, and we love to pictures.

Thanks, i have some pictures i need to pull off the camera and i will post up. And as for the expense, these $10 turtles have already cost me about $150 and i havn't had to buy a tank (and it's only been a week). I still have a lot more to get too (better filter, more thermometers, etc). I will be happy when we get the bigger tank also, so i can give them a lot more room and have room to get more stuff for them to do.

I've been checking bigalsonline for stuff, and the other areas on here for recomendations on what to get.

They're so cute! I wish mine were still so small. Keep an eye on the gravel at the bottom. It's amazing the things they can get in their mouth, and gravel can become impacted. In some cases they can't pass the gravel and surgery is required to remove it. Right now it looks big, but keep an eye on it.

Purchased them. I was leaving work and saw 3 girls on the side of the road holding a big sign that said "Baby Turtles". They had them all (about 20 of them left when i stopped) in a tub and were selling them from the back seat of the car.

I can honestly say I've never seen anyone selling baby turtles from their car :p

Your set up was really neat...my poor turtles are probably bored to death compared to yours. lol
