Allow me to introduce my turtles. So, their names are Earl, Mytra and Kumberland. Earl became a cause that I have found this site on the Internet (in search of some more information about turtle`s health).
I have bought two turtles on the street on 6 July 2012. The saleswoman was from China and her products was looked bad, frankly.
RES are very exotic reptiles for Russian Federation and I never saw them before and I had knew nothing about this turtles. I have decided that I will find money to grow them at home and ask this woman to sale me two of them. Both turtles were sicker in the beginning. Another turtle lived just 3 months with a strong pneumonia and she did not grew up. And Earl had a big spot rot on his shell (even now, in this place of carapax there is a small deformation).
And now here are the survived Earl and two little RES from zoo-shop since 13 October 2012.
I hope, they all will be good together.

Welcome to the site! Earl might be growing a little too fast (from the thickness of the seams between his scutes), so I would review how much he's been eating.

May be it is just because they live in crystal clear water all times  So, turtles have a good mood and d`like to eat a bit more.

Exactly why you just gotta watch that. Feeding them to much can cause their shells to become very deformed.

What cute turtles! :D
And I have a turtle who begs and loves food too and I have to stop myself from feeding him too much. All the time. It's hard.

Welcome!
Since turtles are an exotic pet in your country, you are very lucky!
I hope we can all help you learn, and learn from your experience too.

Captive RES will almost always act hungry. Some even eat so much and fast that they vomit, only to resume eating a few minutes later.

OK, I catched that it is necessary to feed them in a smaller quantities. And may be, is it naturaly that 6 or 7 months old RES has just 6 cm as straight carapace lenght? (the fact that he lives in 4 months, and he grew up from 4.5 cm to 6 cm for this time. I don`t know how old is he exactly). It is just 2,4 inch now. And, to tell the truth, I have read too much articles about RES (even I have found http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 131949.htm about global conservation program on turtles) and your site too. I have an idea that my first two turtles were from "farm" in China. I don`t know can turtles from "farm" (like that description on the redearslider.com here http://www.redearslider.com/adoptions.html) be more fatty and grow faster or not?
I think, that is the interesting question...

Nearly all pet RES are from farms and breeders. Provided they are healthy, I would expect them to have similar growth rates. Captive RES almost certainly grow faster than their wild counterparts.
