Hello TurtleTalk forums, I know this introduction is after asking care questions, but I figured I might as well. I was one of those folks who didn't research before adopting two sweet little RES hatchlings in a small green case with a green plastic tree, then came home to find out about the 4" rule a few days later. It wasn't the best foot to start on, but thanks to this site and these forums, I think Yawara and Taro are finally settling in. I actually named them opposite what the vet thinks their genders will be, but I suppose they won't mind. ;) Taro's name comes from the Japanese fairy tale "Urashima Taro" featuring a boy who rescues a turtle and Yawara is an alternative pronunciation for the Japanese character for "gentle" and for "judo" (well, the first part of it).

I'll try to post some pictures once I can get Photobucket to stop rejecting my uploads. At any rate, it's nice to meet you all and I look forward to talking more with you!

EDIT: Thanks penelope! Here are some pictures!

Welcome to the forum!
I love the history behind the names
and really happy to hear you saw a vet - Kudos to you!
You can post pictures on here directly. I'm not sure if it requires special permission or not...
but if you have the option, select "Full Editor" when you post, and then find the upload tab.
You may need to reduce the size a bit. If it's too big the system will reject it.

Thanks penelope, I was able to add some pictures.

About the vet, I got made fun of by family and friends for taking them to the vet when they're so small, but I am glad I did, even if just for the peace of mind. It's really weird - people really do look at turtles as needing nothing more than food and a tank with some tap water. However, it's also been neat watching everyone's perception change as we learn more about them. They've really come to enjoy the little guys and even do their own research.
