Hello,
I just got 2 yellow belly sliders from a store in myrtle beach. The poor things where in a 10 gal tank with like 40 ( maybe more) other little turtles. They are very small about an inch to 1 1/2 in. One of them is missing part of his tail...we call him Stubby. The other little guy is Webber. ( have no clue if they are male or female ... From what I've read wont be able to till they are bigger, right?) I want to know if I am doing things right. I got them a 40 gal turtle tank ( has the side cut out) it has about 15-20 gal of water in it. Reptofilter from terra fauna 90 gal per hour, also have cascade 400 110 gph. Repti glo 26w 5.0 UVB lamp, turtle dock medium, swamp basking spot 100 w diurnal heat lamp, reptile heater 78 degree setting (not using this because my water is staying between 75-80 with out heater) I'm feeding zoomed hatchling formula about 10 little pellets each once a day.....although I'm pretty sure they would gladly eat the whole jar of I would put it in there. I got some dried shrimp treat for them...I've only gave them this twice since I got them home on July 21. I have floated romaine lettuce in tank a few times and the do eat it some too.
I know I've made a big mistake right from the start...I put fish tank gravel in the tank. it was in from sat. Evening to tues morning. That morning I saw stubby eat a peice of gravel. I can only hope that they will be ok. I have no idea how much they ate, maybe it was just that peice, I don't know if both did it or just one. I took all the gravel out immediately. I put a light layer of river rocks down now they are much bigger, just slightly smaller then the turtles bodies. I will post pics. As soon as can.
Well I think that's all....sorry for the long post but I would love feed back. Do I need to do anything different?
Happy to be here with other turtle people!
Brandy
