Hi all, been reading the forum for a bit now but just decided to join. I currently have 5 turtles of my own, and I am babysitting a 6th turtle for the next couple of months until my girlfriend's little brother gets enough money for his own tank and everything he needs. I'll start off by telling you about my turtles.
The first turtle I ever got is Nathan, he is a RES and is full of personality. Nathan is about 2" in length, probably a little less. Nathan will swim any where and every where in his tank, and doesn't enjoy basking all too often but every once in a while he will.
After Nathan, we wanted to get him a friend so we went to the same pet store and bought Daniel. Daniel is about half the size of Nathan, and is a pretty shy turtle. Daniel spends most of his time basking or just floating around on the top of the water, but he is a very funny little guy.
After Nathan and Daniel, we got 2 western painted turtles. One is Seamus McFinnigan and he is our largest turtle. He is about 3" in length and is a very goofy turtle. He seems a bit uncoordinated for his size but he is learning to be comfortable with himself. The second one is Nicholas. Nicholas is about the same size as Daniel, but he is one of the most beautiful painted turtles I have ever seen. Such beautiful patterns and distinct markings. Nicholas is fairly energetic, but does enjoy to spend most of his time basking.
Our 5th turtle, Max, is our smallest turtle, and he was a rescue of sorts. While walking along a river/stream, I noticed a tiny turtle sitting on a leaf and he wasn't doing much. I picked him up and inspected him and noticed that he had a pretty bad eye injury. I took Max home and with eye drops and care he has recovered into a healthy baby turtle and he seems to be very grateful. When I put my hand in the tank he will just climb on.
The last turtle we have belongs to my girlfriend's little brother, who does not have a suitable environment for his own turtle yet so we are taking care of him for now. He is the same size as Nicholas and Daniel, but with more energy than both of them combined.
In 1-2 weeks I will be getting an albino RES from a breeder. I have requested a male, and he will be a baby about the size of a quarter. We have not come up with names yet because we like to get to know our turtles' personalities before we name them.
As far as our tanks go, we have one 10g tank, one 20g breeder tank, and one 29g tank with some custom work on it. I will include pictures and descriptions of the tanks in a future post, as well as photos of the other turtles.
