Hello everyone...I was given a baby RES a few days ago (from the wild) he's the cutest thing ever so how could I say no??? I have a turtle already but he's a mapp turtle. I've had him for a few years. Anyways, the baby is living w/my mapp & they seem to be cool together. However, the baby wants to stay on the basking log when it's feeding time so Im worried. What can I do to get him to eat when it's feeding time? Or will it just take some time for him to learn the routine?

Hi, welcome to the site! What are their size differences? You might want to setup different tanks until you know the RES is healthy, active and eating.

Welcome! I agree with Steve...you may want to quarantine the new little one. I got my gal from the wild too and at her initial vet check-up I learned she had an RI and an eye infection, so separating keeps the healthy one from potentially getting ill and helps you watch the behavior of your new family member.

Thanks Steve & Penelope for your suggestion in keeping the little guy in a smaller tank, for a bit. My map turtle is just under 4" & the new guy is silverdollar size. I have a 10 gallon not being used & a heat/uva/uvb lamp I no longer am usng. I will set-up a "nursery" for the baby today. Thanks! I'll post pics as soon as I figure it out!
