Post Posted: Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:31 am   hello everyone!

i am sujith and fairly new to turtles. my turtles name is "voodooo". very active with a voracious appetite. hes about 4 months old now, when i got him his shell was roughly 1'' now and he is almost 2" now. i have read a lot on the how to keep turtles properly. but i have some shortcomings which is why i joined this forum. firstly i m from india which means finding UV light is impossible and cant even get them shipped from online websites coz they dont ship to india. i have only the natural option (sun).since i stay in a pretty warm and sunny place i keep him under the sun for about 30-45 mins daily. i clean his tank everyday(20 gallon) and use only RO water. i ve placed some tiles as his land area. i ve got a 40 w halogen bulb over this land area for basking. i ve got a thermostat for maintaining water temperarture which i have set to about 26degrees centigrade. before this setup just as i got him , he had a serious bout of RI which with help of the internet and many sleepless nights and constant vigils and his fighter attitude got him thru . he is very healthy and happy now. i feed him pellets and lots of veggies like boiled peas, fresh carrots, cucumber ,onions(he loves all of them) and the usual chicken, eggs, fish, beef, mutton and the occasional cuttle bone too. i m lucky he is not finicky with food. my present problem is of late i started noticing whitish patches all over his shell.the shell is hard still but its got this dull whitish colour over his entire shell. he seems very active and still a strong appetite. is he going to start shedding or is it a fungal infection? please help. also if anybody can get me contact no to a warm and friendly turtle vet in india, voodoo and me would be ever grateful. thank you in advance.

PS i m unable to upload pics from my camera. but the pics which the user "michael 247" put up with the same query (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12881) covers my query perfectly as well . my turtles has the same thing. anything you could help with would be appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the site. I think michael 247 had an issue with shedding, though white patches are usually a sign of fungus.

Fungus requires a bit more aggressive treatment. Having the correct setup and lighting is a start.
