I have a female RES named Loki, and me and my husband love her to bits!
We live in the Lower mainland of BC and like to have her outside when we can, but since moving we haven't been able to set up anything permanent outdoors because of landlords dogs.
We were very lucky to get her from her previous owner (as we could never afford all the starting costs of owning a turtle) for free with the tank and stand since she was moving and couldn't take her. We've since added much to the set-up, such as a filter, proper lighting, and a proper basking area (Previous owner didn't even have a filter, and the basking area was an old plastic tool-box
)
Though I'm not sure we would have taken her if we knew how expensive it was to keep a turtle healthy, I'm glad we did. It's well worth it to see her happy and curious in her habitat and am currently in the planning stages of building her a proper indoor habitat area including a nesting area since she's only just reached sexual maturity and has started laying eggs.
