I am so in love with my 2 adopted 3 yr old sliders. I think they are female but seem small. Our big 5 yr girl is twice their size in every way!!! This is our big girl Stevie, proudly owned by my 15 yr old daughter.
Now these two are the ones I adopted because I wouldn't leave Stevie alone, LOL!


Before anyone asks, this is their temporary basking "bucket" while their water temp heats up since I added fresh water. Our pet vet wants me to have them "dry dock" once a week for 24 hrs. And I move them about from this small bucket to a large rubbermaid tote that I can clip the lamps onto.

We use the Odd Pet Vet who is out of the New England Wildlife Center in MA. Not the most convenient location but highly recommended! He has folks from all over New England and he actually talks to you, unlike my dogs/cats' vet

Welcome to the site. Why does he want you to dry dock your turtles once a week? that is prob unnecessary unless they are sick or have shell rot or something of the sort. just provide a basking spot in the tank and they dont need to be moved while there water heats up. Unlike Fish, Turtles are very good with water conditions changing and the new water prob would not change the temp enough to hurt them in any way.

He said that in will make my babes(yes I know they are older) healthier in the long run. Maybe he didn't think I would give basking area but my two little angelic children were with me and things were a bit crazy. The volunteer staff were trying their hardest to occupy them while I talked with the vet. So the vet most likely thought I wasn't go to keep my babes well. Little does he know how determined a mom can be!
Thought the temp change would stress them out. Good to know. The temp goes down to about 66 from my usual 74.

Yeah that should be okay. Turtles are SUPER good about water changes. they also dont need to have there water treated when you change it to get chlorine out like fish and other aquatic stuff does. Yeah I dont see a reason to dry dock them every other day or something as long as you supply a dry basking area with lights. also, do you have your tank as full as it can be without chances of escape? the deeper the water the better even for hatching RES. they LOVE to swim.

Cute turts...how big is Stevie? Miss Tee is so happy in her new digs that she has already grown 1/2" in 2 months! I can't keep up with her (tank upgrades)
