Gah. I'm so proud of myself, aha. My dad bought my 14 y/o sis. 4 RES, well, it's actually supposed to be two for her, two for me. Except I was unaware when he bought it, so was unprepared. It came in a dingy LITTLE tank. They stayed in there for about a week, before I was able to buy all the things needed for them (I read many online sources) cos I'm an animal lover, though I've never had turtles, I knew the turtles wouldn't thrive. They barely moved for that whole week, and did not eat. This is how we got the turtles:


However! I am proud to report, that within a week, I was able to get a huge storage container, a submersible heater, a humidity thermometer AND a basking heat lamp. Cost me about $100. I still need a few more things, however I'm a broke college student lol. BUT I plan on getting a filter, UVB light and a water thermometer... is there anything else I'm missing? Btw, the turtles look MUCH happier. So relieved, they're swimming around, playing w/ each other AND eating. This is what they're habitat looks like currently:


I made a basking area using the plastic tank they came in, by just putting flat rocks on top, and making sure the water was about the same height as the mounted rocks, so it's easy for them to climb up :3

Oh, and right now all four are in there, however I will be helping my lil sis set her habitat up, after which she'll be able to take her two turtles, so my bin won't be this crowded for long. I believe the bin is approx. 20 gallons, maybe a bit less? Not sure, but it's pretty big.

hi ablondes! im a newbie turtle owner too. man your set up looks cool and they look like little babies. mine are a bigger but def. not full grown and my set up hahah well lets just say were ghetto right now until a cpl hrs from now when i get the rest of what they need, which is everything. where did you get the rocks and what kind of filter are you using? is it working good?

Sorry, this reply is uuuuber late. But I got the rocks from the flea market... but you can get big rocks from Canadian Tire, in the gardening section. BTW - my set up is dif, I got rid of the gravel.. b/c it trapped a lot of odor.. it was horrible. And the I JUST got a filter... didn't have one before, which sucked b/c I had to keep doing 100% water clean outs... but I'm using a power filter... one meant for a 50g tank. oh and it works pretty good in my opinion.

How're your turtle(s) doing now?! Hopefully well. Gimme an update

My turtle bin now, has a bit more plants (so when the turtle is tired of fighting the current, it can rest, and just stay hitched to a plant - which it likes to do)
#2- now that I got a legit basking rock, I was able to up the water lvl... and now the heat lamp is close enough for my turtle to dry off faster

And that's about it. I still need a UVB lamp though
