Hi Everyone,
My name is Barb and I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina on Candybar Farm. We raise organic fruit and veggies, free range chickens for eggs and hope to expand into other things along the way. We are just a small farm, but enjoy the outdoors and being able to grow and share foods.
We have a dog named Chutney, who is a Fiest Mountain Dog who keeps the predators and mice, moles, voles and chipmunks away. At ten years and 20 pounds, she runs the place... and us.
  Our special pet is a RES named Mister Turdt. We call him Mister for short. Candace brought him home from work one day. One of her co-workers parents owned a pet store and their turtles had many, many babies. Since they were too small to sell, he brought them in, in pairs to give to anyone who was interested. Candace was. She came home with the stereotypical plastic box with a palm tree and they lived in that for a few hours while we went and got an aquarium and all the fixings a young twosome of turtles would need.
I must mention, both of them didnt look so good. One looked healthy enough, but the other had swollen eyes, and looked generally unhealthy. I was not thrilled about having sick reptiles in the house, but sometimes, you just do things... Sadly, the healthy looking baby died a couple days later, and the sickly turtle got well and is now just over four inches, is healthy, happy, and very personable. He has been with us for almost two years. Mr. Turdt lives in an aquarium in the dining room, where he can see everything and everyone who comes and goes. We adore him, and I think he likes us too. He is fearless and willing when it comes to new experiences. He would rather have crickets than anything in the world, and rearranges his "house" regularly.
I will work on getting some pictures of him to share, and have enjoyed browsing the site and all the pics so far. I am happy to have registered... finally... as I have looked at RES.com since Mister came to us, and I imagine that is why he has made it this far... Because we learned what he needed, and gave it to him.
So, hi to everyone, and thanks for being here.
Barb
