Hi everyone. I'm new here first post and new to turtles. So some background might be useful. So I've always wanted a turtle when I was younger but the province I'm in the sale of turtles is illegal due to salmonella concerns (which I think is bs) which makes getting a turtle a little harder. So I decided to go the legit way and adopt a turtle from a local reptile shelter rather then private sale or importing one from another province. One day when I was searching Kijiji for a new tank for one of my crested gecko I stumbled upon a local reptile shelter asking for donations. I checked them out and took a look at their adoptable pet section and they had a turtle up for adoption. Instantly I thought I could finally fulfill my childhood dream of having a turtle! So I started doing my research about RES turtles. I've learned so much online from this site and others like it about what they need. This is one awesome part about the internet. You can get info from so many sources and make your own decisions rather then trust some random person at a pet store (I know they mean well but you all know what I mean). So I filled out the paper work to see if I could adopt it and that was done found out someone had already adopted him however they had another one.
I don't have the turtle yet because its still being rehabilitated. RES turtles aren't a native species to where I live and someone found this one walking down a road so something was definitely up. When they found it had a gash on her underside. A vet looked at it and they could see a serrated edge in the wound. They figure someone tried to cut the poor girl open~!

So I'm waiting for her to be considered good to go to adopt her. Hopefully within the next 2 or 3 weeks I'll pick her up. I'm pretty excited as I'm planning the tank, collecting supplies and reading even more about turtles.
I'm starting to get a little collection of animals at my place
2 cats
3 crested geckos (fantastic starter reptiles!)
1 leopard gecko
Soon to be a turtle!
