owner of 5 yr old - getting much-needed turtle education

Just found this site - I know our turtle deserves better, and I'd like your help figuring out what to do first. I'm not the buyer or primary caretaker of this turtle but it will be part of my responsibility from now on. It looks like what I read on this site will determine whether or not we can/should keep this turtle or give it a better home.
I had a ton of questioins and mistakenly posted them here - sorry! You'll probably see me elsewhere later.

Welcome. Don't mean to put you off, but you really should just do some more reading on this site (sounds like you've started from what you wrote). Then, post with specific questions.
If your turtle is a female (you're sure?--just checking), she's probably not through growing. They can be 10 -12 inches.
