Hi there! :D
I actually do not have any turtles,i've been researching and trying to find out/know more about them since January.
I know they are easy to keep but i really want the best for my RESs. [I plan to get some maybe in 2 years]
I know that having turtles is not an easy job and a long-term friend, and i actually find them magnificent creatures.
I started to have interest in them since i saw 4 large adults at my teacher's home.
He has 2 Adult Males and 2 Adult Females.
I'll take some pictures when i go for my tuition this Sunday xD

Turtles are really a joy to own. I recently got another little one. My first (which I've now had for almost 17 years) is an 8" RES. You'll find plenty of information on this forum on how to care for them and what they need to live long happy lives. Something to take into consideration is space and money. It will cost less to get the biggest tank you can from the start. I've upgraded several times since I've had my RES and it can get pretty expensive if you add it all up. It's fun to set everything up and watch your turtle swimming though. :P It actually isn't that hard to care for them. The biggest job for me was using buckets to empty out the tank and then carry it outside for cleaning. Then I bought a gravel vacuum/water changer and it's such a difference. It takes almost no effort to clean their tanks now. There are so many things made that make caring for a turtle super easy.

I actually wanted to get 2 hatchlings, but I know Im not ready yet because i still have some studies to do.
Also,i do not have the money and no one to 'sponsor'. [My dad always change the topic when i talk to him about getting one]
Im too busy for school until the end of the year 2011.

Lol, I suggest you start with one. Especially if you're short on funds. That's too bad about your dad. Parents are all different when it comes to pets. Get as knowledgeable as you can about them. It will make you all the better of an owner. There's no time limit on when you get your own. :P Do what you have to do. Waiting can make things better too. You'll know more, be better prepared, and will enjoy the hatchlings all the more since you had to wait for them. Instant gratification isn't everything. XD

Hello Doomed!! It's great you're waiting until you can actually care for them. A lot of us get a turtle and we're unprepared. Once you do get them, you'll have some happy turtles. :)

I wasnt prepared for the cost of having a pet turtle at first and that unfortunatly made my turtle live without a heater for a while untill i had the funds to purchase one for her..

so that is definatly the best idea possible to be prepared with the needed items before you make the purchase for your little friend ;D

welcome to the forum :)

Hello Sir Max ^^
I really want a baby RES to start with, but im still unsure of the perfect weather/living conditions for it due to hot and humid weather over here.

Questions i ask myself:

Do I still need a heater?
I have been to quite a number of shops [Not air conditioned] and the hatchlings are always on top of the other, without any lamps above them. Are they basking?
Do i have time for it?

Im currently going to libraries to read up more about them.^^
I really want to meet an experienced pet owner to know more about incubating eggs and the process of egg laying.
