i saved a res from being dumped in the lake. he was given to me in a 10 gallon tank with only gravel. he is maybe 5 or 6 inches long. what is there to know about him?

You need 10 gallons of water for every inch on him.

So you will need a minimum of a 60 gallon tank right now. Filter, heater, and everything else. Take a look at the main website for all the tank and health care needs.

thank you yall for welcoming me. i got rid of gravel. for him to be basking, does he have to be completely out of water?

Yep completely dry. Kiddie pools work great if you're in a pinch for space (I know a big tank can be expensive) and they're under $10 usually. Just an option. And a heat light and basking spot are first on the list so he can bask and dry out, then a filter, uvb light, and water heater.
