Hi there,

Long time lurker, first time poster :)

I am actually from England, but I am currently working in Bahrain on a long term assignment. As far as the middle east goes, Bahrain is pretty damn nice!

My room mate bought some turtles and a cheap set up and promptly lost interest in them, so I sort of inherited them but I am so glad, as I have found a new hobby I love doing! :D The only issue I have is Bahrain does not have the supplies I need for turtle care - when I fly home and back to Bahrain half my suitcase is reserved for turtle stuff! There are also no herp vets in Bahrain :(

Here is an image of Frankie and Mr. Turtle. I believe Frankie (the smaller) is a RES although I saw an interesting post the other day on RES/Cumberland cross-breeds, I think hes actually one of these, as the "red ear" isn't so prominent and more golden! Mr Turtle I believe is a a Yellow Bellied Slider but again I am not 100% sure...

Anyway, I am off to the Urgent Care forum as Mr Turtle is sick :(

Cheers,
fanboy

Welcome fanboy!

The reptile vets around here won't examine turtles my size, so both you and I are on our own as far as their health. I can say that Turtle Talk will tell you almost everything you need to know, and that a lot of it is common sense. I felt a little "in over my head" at first, but I took turtle ownership one issue at a time, and so far it's been working out and very rewarding. Good luck with everything, see you around the forum.

I've been to the middle east before, but didn't think it was very nice, haha. I'm glad that you've got some turtley friends to keep you company over there, stay safe.

Hi, thanks for the replies :)

Spike 7.62 I always found it strange vets won't see small turtles, but I guess they figure its not worth the time :(

I actually took my turtle to the vet in Bahrain..the only vet there is - however she's a dog and cat expert and knew very little about reptiles! She ended up googling for an answer and said next time bring me something fluffier!
