I used to own 2 sliders when I was in kindergarten.. unfortunately they grew too big and my parents could not afford the time to look after them as they need constant changing of water and they kept escaping, so they were given away when i was 5 or 6..

so it's been arnd 9 to 10 years since ive owned a terrapin.. and I finally got Gene last saturday. Originally, when choosing the terrapin I wanted, I pointed at another one but at tt moment, it swam under the rock and Gene happened to jump into the water right in the path of my hand..

on the first day and second, Gene refused to eat the terrapin pellets I tried giving her.. but Gene's quite an interractive terrapin, after leaving my hand in the tank for some time it came over.. trying to balance on my hand :lovely: on the third day I was eating udon and nicked some chicken fillet (no oil!!) for Gene to try.. and surprisingly.. Gene ate from my hand!!! that night, I held Gene gently in my hands, slowly bringing it closer to me.. eventually, Gene started digging in my palm and.. Fell asleep in it! :qmarkblur: .. So adorable!!! Gene's obviously no longer afraid of me, which is quite surprising as we've only been together for a few days.. occasionally, it'll pop its head out of the water and float vertically when i'm beside the tank. however when my other family members walk past, it'll swim away and hide under it's basking rock.

i'm glad Gene's quite friendly as ive read stories on terrapins shying away... but apparantly, Gene's a fussy eater and still refuses to eat the pellets... =.=".. is there any way i can get it to eat the pellets? Terrapins are omnivores, slanting more toward the carnivorous side.. but they still need a balanced diet, so im a little worried since Gene refuses to eat the pellets, grapes and vegetables... :sweat_002:

so far, gene's tank only has water and a basking rock in it and is placed next to the window for sunlight so it can get vitamin D.. im saving up to buy it a uvb lamp and a heater..

Lol how cute.. How i picked screw is i put a pellet in the bucket he was in with like 300 other turtles so i could get the best 1 that already knew how to eat he was the ugliest.. but screw it! lol never had a problem with him eating though :/

oO sweet! gene doesn't like his pellets though.. he likes chicken fillet and brocolli..

Lol.. not sure if those are good foods for a turtle.. the chicken will definately shorten your turtles lifespan if you feed too much.. Read the Nutrition section just to be sure!

oO it's cooked chicken fillet with no oil or anything cooked by steaming and i can't access tt link. mm then what kinds of meat can i feed gene? duck?

He's about the size of my two hatchlings. It's cool that you're handling him and he seems to be fine with that.

I should handle mine more often.

I live in Singapore and i dont need a heater. Just get a thermometer and make sure it doesnt get too hot. I cool down torti's water twice a day with a bottle of water thats frozen

try to feed them red or green lettuce, little shrimps are ok when they are less than a year. I don't think broccoli is recommended. The nutritiion link tells you everything.
