ive had my turtle shelly for ages, i just found this place and found out that they needed alot more care than we were giving. i feel so bad that we've been mistreating him for so long and not even knowing it!!!
i dont think theres any good way to tell your mom that your turtle needs a new tank twice the size of the old one...
just wanted to introduce myself! i have always loved turtles and was beyond thrilled when i got a check to get one for christmas when i was eight. so we brought home shelly, who has been a great buddy of mine ever since! i want to learn all i need and more about water turtles, i want to give my little friend more than the second rate care he's been getting for so long. im an open book, feel free to fill in the pages!!!

Welcome! How old is he? Do post pictures of him and your set up. We'll be glad to "pick it to pieces" Just teasing. Yes, we'd love to help. :)
Who ever said turtles were slow?

Hello and welcome! Don't beat yourself up over the care you gave.

I'm new to the boards and turtles so won't be much help to you. Though I know the people here are willing to help.

i dont have the faintest clue how old he is, but hes no baby turtle. 5 inches long, and i just found out he might get bigger! i also found out that he's not even a res, but a western painted turtle. turns out its not just hermit crabs that petstores are clueless about.

Welcome! Shelly is a very nice looking turtle. And like LorJ said, don't feel bad about how you've been taking care of him; he looks like he's been getting along just fine. It's great for you that you found this site and want to learn how to care for your turtle better!

The turtle looks great for supposedly not being taken care of good enough. Looks like you're doing good so far!
