Hello my name is Turtle_Gem but everyone calls me amy, I just recently rescued a turtle and she is living with me. I call my Red eared slider Skitty because she hides still when im around but thats to be expected. Hope to see you around!

Welcome to the site! Most new turtles are skittish, so you're right to assume it's normal. Once they associate you with food though they usually enjoy seeing you much more as it's their chance to beg .
