Hi,
My name is Joe,and i just registered to Redearslider.com.I've visited many sites before making my decision, and redearslider.com was my choice!
I started having turtles about 8 months ago when my girlfriend at the time brought one home from the hotel she worked at.Some guests had decided to abandon 4 of them in the hotel room and check out! (they were probably turists and bought them in China Town, but decided they didn't want them).

At first they kept them in the sales office, but one died after a few days and that's when they decided the turtles needed a home.So my ex brought one home and her boss took the other 2 survivors.

I named him Leonardo.....Now he couldn't be alone now could he??So not too long after that WE went to China Town and saved another 3 turtles (Donatello,Rafaello, and Michelangelo lol).

Now,7 months later, i have a 75 gallon tank with a Penn Plax Cascade 1500 canister filter and the turtles look very happy!!Even if Leonardo (the first one) seems to not have grown much since i had him.The others are atleast twice his size....

Anyway....looking forward to lots of advice and i will be posting pics soon!!
Take care everyone!!

Wow, four turtles, that's quite a pack. I've got a lone Mikey (TMNT reference) and he's happy on his own! It's possible that Leonardo has a stunted growth due to poor conditions, or different genetics than the other three, or possible that the other three are female (which get larger than males). Just make sure all four are getting enough to eat, sometimes you'll get a hog or two and the others will starve. And be ready for turtle aggression and tank upgrades!

Sounds like everyone seems happy and healthy for now at least!

I actually just upgraded to a 75 gallon 3 days ago!I had them in a 10 gallon, but realized it was time to spend some money.
After reading a few posts,i found out i was over feeding. So now pellets and dry shrimp every other day,and lettuce every day.Eventually i'm gonna start giving them some blood worms. They have tons of feeder fish that they snatch here and there.
In 2 days they eat my 2 pleco's(they were about 2" long),my 3 albino cory catfish and one crayfish.I had just got them right after i put the tank together!
I have a chinese algea eater and just bought a big pleco(5") 10 minutes ago...Hopefully they will keep the bottom clean...
Can't really tell the sexes yet.None have hit the 4" mark.
But if Leo doesn't grow in a few months now that the tank is much bigger,he'll have to take a trip to the vet...
I posted pics of them and the tank in the picture forum...
Comments and suggestions are more than welcome!:)
