Oh wow Muffins is an adorable name, i love it! Glad that you found the site, it's super helpful, and i'm sure you'll find that everybody here is really nice. If you haven't already, check out the non-forum portion of the site (there are links at the very top of the page), it's well organized and has a lot of good stuff on it. I wish i had found it when i first aquired my turtle, it would have saved me a lot of money buying the all the crap that the pet stores assured me was good for my turtle. The most important bit of advice i can think of for a new turtle owner (besides doing lots of research) is : Don't listen to pet stores!!! I'm not saying all pet stores are bad and don't know about turtles, but the vast majority of pet stores have really awful advice about turtle care. Most of the products "designed" specially for turtles, like turtle tanks and turtle filters, are no good and a big waste of money.
Anyway, welcome to the forum, and good luck with you new little friend! Post some pictures if you get a chance, everybody loves a baby turtle :D

I know i wish i found this site too before i got a RES. I listen to pet store people and they are all wrong now i got to get new every thing. I got one of those tanks that have the glass cut out on side where filter goes. After reading off this site I am now getting a real setup. I feel so bad for muffins.

Ahh yeah...it's okay, it happens to almost everybody. It's sooo annoying! Don't feel bad, i'm sure he's just fine for now, and besides he's got an owner that cares enough to do a little research, which is more than most RES have unfortunately. He's going to be so happy once you get him all hooked up!

Yea, I don't get why pet employees would sell you such useless cheap junk. A real turtle habitat would even cost more money, giving them more income!
