Hello Hello!
I stumbled upon this place by accident, but realized how at home I felt with other people who loved RES Turtles just as much as I do. I've been living with them for about a year and a half or so.

Currently I have a baby RES whose name is Mini-Fred, and is about the length of two quarters.

Before Mini-Fred I had another RES named Fred. He was my first RES turtle, and that's when I realized how much fun they were to have as well as costly, but I must say it's worth it. Sadly though I had Fred for about a year, and he passed away last week on the 12th. It was indeed devastating, but that's when I realized I couldn't live without a turtle, since I love them so much. That's when I decided to get Mini-Fred. I've had him for about three days now, and he seems to be doing wonderfully. Constantly swimming about and floating around. He seems to enjoy swimming more than basking, haha.

So, again I say, hello!! ^_^

Thank you for the warm welcome!
And it's ok, in my opinion Fred is in a better place, and Mini-Fred will carry out his legacy and live on. Maybe he'll even outlive me if he and I are lucky, haha.

Indeed he might! Depending on your age. My husband and I are youngish retirees and we've made provision for Spot, our 4 year old RES, in our will. Someone joined the forum the other day with a 32 year old RES - Hermann is his "oldest buddy". A turtle is definitely a long term commitment!

Well personally I'm proud to say that I'm a responsible 18 year old RES owner. And it sounds nice that you left Spot something like that. Maybe I will too.
And wow 32 years? I can't even imagine Mini-Fred that old yet! He's so small and adorable that I don't want him to grow at all, but I've always wanted a dinner-plate sized turtle when I found out they can get that big.
And yes it's true, turtles are a long-term commitment, but I have to say that it's a wonderful long-term commitment. I enjoy it a lot!

LOL! How awesome would that be?! I'm sure Mini-Fred would have to grow a little more before he's induced to parties
