Hello all. I've had my RES (Jamal Gwap) for almost six months now. I got him in Chinatown (NY) and he's just about doubled in size since I got him... if not more. Here's a pic of him in his aquarium... I have since gotten rid of that cave.

Sorry for the crappy picture, it's all I have right now.

I recently built a basking area out of PVC pipe/unions and plexiglass... all of which is curing together right now (just finished building it!) and I hope to put it in his tank some time tomorrow. It has a top level, and a middle level, and to get to the top level is an angled piece of bathroom tile, with more narrow bits I cut up put on top of that, so he has some grip to get up there. The top level is a piece of plexi-glass with a few holes drilled in it.

When I put the new basking area thingamajig in I'll take some more pics.

Welcome James!

Your new basking area sounds like a decent one.
That's what I need to upgrade next .. my current setup
doesn't quite cut it.

Hello and welcome James. Good idea to get rid of the cave as you wouldn't want your little one to get stuck and drown. Can't wait to see new pictures!

Welcome to the forum! I'm looking forward to more pictures. If you want an idea to replace the cave, several of us use a large piece of pvc pipe. My turts are a little bigger than 4 inches and they still fit through it just fine. My male likes to sleep in there.

Thanks for the welcomes and kind words every body!! I just finished putting together his new basking uhm...thing. Sad part is it takes up almost all of his aquarium!! Time for a new aquarium soon! Good part is that now I have a reason to fill it up with more water so he has more space to swim. I'll post some pics in a few... I definitely need a bigger tank for him though! I guess after this semester at school I will get him a new one...considering he's coming with me, I don't want to take up too much space in my dorm.

Here's the thing I made for him:

And here it is, along with him in the back left corner, in the tank:

So far I've got a stealth 25w water heater, a duetto filter (two sponge things and a carbon pellet deally) a regular light bulb for light, and a Zoo Med heat lamp, that doesn't emit light. I'll save that stuff for other parts of the forum though, cause I don't think it belongs here.

There's the pics for now, everybody! Enjoy!
