I found this site a while ago but the whole trouble with the password thing is why I couldn't get on sooner. Well I have to say this is the most informative site about RES turtles I have ever been to.

My name is Justin, I'm 17 and I'm from Coral Springs, Florida.

I've had a bad history with turtles, three died of illness and one escaped (long story). I was young at the time and didn't have much experience concerning turtles. I regret it much to this day and I'm working on providing the best care I can to the ones I have right now. Speaking of that, I have two RES, one is a little more than a newborn hatchling and the other is a monster compared to him, I'm guessing three to four inches, I haven't measured her before. Anyway the two have gotten along well since I recieved the younger one from my sister (She keeps getting me turtles like they're goldfish but they are in fact a major responsibility, as far as money goes. ) Well I look forward on posting my questions in the forums and possibly answering some I might have experience on.

I'm glad you found us and worked out the password situation. You are right in that turtles are a major investment and responsibility. You may want to tell your sister if she buys you another turtle that she better be prepared to pay for a complete habitat for the turtle until it's old.. maybe that will stop her from buying them for you

whats up Red. Im d0e. My RES is named Norman (soon to be changed due to sex). Welcome to the site. Im fairly new here myself but i have to also admit that it is one of the best i have found on the net. Sorry to hear about your past experiences but im sure u learned and will give your new buddies a better lifestyle. I myself did not know a thing about RES when my sister found 1 inch Norman abandoned on a mall bench in a tiny habitat with maybe 2 inches of filthy water. All i did was change the water when i got him home and threw in some lettuce. I had no idea how to care for him until i found this site a week or 2 later. Now Norman is in a temp 12-15 gallon clear rubbermaid containter filled wit water, basking dock, heater, lights, filtration, plants,,etc. If it wasnt for me stumbling across this site who knows where and how Norman would be living today. Welcome!

I'm new too and this is the BEST site. I'm a huge researcher thank goodness! I unfortunately lost my first res to pneumonia a couple of weeks after I got him. We did everything we could... complete set up and almost $200 in vet bills. Thanks to everyone on this board I am trying again. We now have an extremely healthy little baby who is an absolute joy to watch!
