Shawn & Diesel!!!!

yes, 10 years ago. 1996. Shawn Michaels and Diesel were WWF champions. It's been a long time. I no longer watch Wrestling, But the turtles of the same names live on. They're a couple of Healthy Red Eared Sliders. Both about 8" in Carapace Length. They spend their lives now quite differently. Growing up together they seemed fine together But sadly like the real wrestlers grew apart.

I got these turtles as a trick. I had always wanted a Dog or Cat and my parents said no. So i decided to get something like gold fish. I got to the store and saw they had these little Quarter sized hatchlings for $8 / turtle and figured that it'll be a nifty little pet for a bit. They'll last a few months and then i can act so upset over them dieing i can convince my parents to get me that Dog.

I was in the for a shock. within months, they had grown huge compared to the original size. They were active and showed personality. Thats when i decided to start reading up and figure out exactly what i got myself into. I was doing everything wrong. According to the books and the website. My gals should be dead. but they kept thriving and growing. 1 year... 2 years. then 5.. and now. 10 years later. They're fully grown beasts who have taken over the house. when a cat finally came into our house the turtles made quick work to scare the cat into knowing whos boss.

These two guys strut their stuff with no fear of people walking around. although they live seperate lives now. Unfortunately when i used to keep them in the same 60 gallon tank they tried to kill eachother everytime i wasn't looking. they live seperately now. Shawn spends her days basking on her Turtle dock under the UV rays and heat lamp. You can find her there all hours of the day. night time, day time. spread out and stretched. Or sleeping at the bottom. Diesel however has grown a little distate for being submerssed. she panics and freaks out, splishing and splashing every way and freaking out when placed in her water. She enjoys being placed on the floor and having free roam of the house. She can be often found sitting stretched out infront of a heater. Climbing up dangling bedsheets to sit on someones pillow on their bed, or banging against my chair while i sit in it till she gets picked up. once put on my lap when i'm sitting she'll almost aways fall right to sleep.

well without further adew, Here are my little babies

please tell me which one! ive always thought they were both female!

if i had to guess, though the only iffy one would be shawn. the one in the top picture thats closer to the Camera. Because Diesel.. the one in the second picture and in the back of the first picture has laid eggs. (or so my mom claims.. happened while i was away for two weeks).

I'm iffy about the other one because Shawn's never shown sign of laying eggs, and her tail ISa bit longer than Diesels and the opening alittle further. however it's not pronounced or completely obvious like i've seen in most other photos of mail RES

The back one, and the one in the second picture is the one with the long nails. I'd bet male on that one. Are you sure that it's the one that layed the eggs?

Males have longer thicker tails and long front nails. Females short thinner tails and short nails.

Those long front toenails look very unfeminine to me.

Welcome Sprawl.

I agree that the one on your lap appears to be a male. If one laid eggs, I would guess it was the other turtle.

my mom swears it was that one.... plus it's tale really isn't long or wide. i think it's claws just got long due to a lack of anything to scratch and grind them down on. this is the one that doesnt spend a lot of time in water. I'll take a photo of her bum tomorow and show. maybe that'll clarify.

Maybe you're right because those back toenails look pretty long too. My Spot's unquestionably a male and, while your turt's front toenails are pretty lng, Spot's are a lot longer.

Maybe a picture of the other one's nails will give us a better idea, too. :)

Nice looking turtles! The one in the last pic is a male (and from the picture at least, looks like he's melanistic---getting very dark with age, which is quite normal). The red streak is pretty, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the sex.

What a good-looking pair! You have taken good care of them! The boy is especially handsome with his darker colored shell. :)
