i have just recently acquired what i believe is a male res.
i found my res while driving to work last week. he was walking across the street and i stopped to pick him up. res are not native to this area... and the turtle was nowhere near the wild. so i am confident that he is an escapee or an res that was reintroduced. after reading a lot on this website, i know that it is frowned upon to remove an res from the wild. but i am pretty sure that he is not wild.
my husband and i have set him up in a 55 gallon tank. the water level isn't as high as it should be/we want it because we haven't been able to find a suitable screen as of yet. he's eating and swimming and basking (when he thinks we're not looking) and having a good ol' time.
i am going to try to take some pics soon and i'll post them. we bought one of those zoo med turtle docks but it's not exactly working out. it already has this weird white slime on the bottle of it. so we're looking to replace it with something else.
anyway. he's a great turtle. i've named him morla - the ancient one. after the turtle-like creature in never-ending story that is allergic to atreyu. haha.
