Hello everyone, I have gained so much good information from this forum that I figured it was time I actually joined and posted here! I am a 31 year old mother of two humans, four turtles (two foster RES, one YBS, and one river cooter), one corn snake, one rat terrier, and nine chickens. I have kept turtles all my life, since I was a child and would find turtles of all types and sizes in my yard in rural VA. We live in the mountains of PA now.
I am in the midst of creating a brand new indoor winter setup for two of my turtles. During the warm months, all four live outdoors in a 3,000 gallon pond. The two foster RES will overwinter there, but my southern belles have to come live in the office for a while. Last year they wintered in a 100-gallon stock tank that I kept in an empty guest cottage on our property, but this year we have a tenant living in it (the cottage, not the stock tank!

), and I do not have room for the stock tank in the office, so I am setting up a 75-gallon aquarium. I am working on a PVC and eggcrate dock based on the excellent photos in this forum, with a slate shingle glued to the top. I am figuring out how to include as many of my aquatic plants in the tank as possible, along with my baby trapdoor snails, so that I do not have to set up a second tank for them (they all lived on my porch this summer in a smaller aquarium). I am using some of the extra eggcrate to make a plant cage at one end of the tank, and may use some flexible window screening leftover from another project to make bags for some plants to be tethered in around the dock. My river cooter, Kuta, is a notorious plant muncher, so anything I come up with will have to outsmart her! I will post some photos when I am all finished.
Thanks for all the great information, and for letting me join!
