Your welcome. Your river water could contain snails and all kinds of crap not meant for indoor tanks. This filter is really simple to hook up and will give you clean filtered water. Keep in mind the slower you run the water through the filter the better it works. And consider getting rid of the gravel. A lot of us use pool filter sand instead of gravel or rocks. Some people have bare tanks. I like sand.

(Housed in the same tank)

I am going to try sand. I had "river rocks" in there originally but they developed mold EXTREMELY fast so I decided to get rid of them. I will look at the pool filter sand though.

The mold/algea was probably caused by the river water.
